CATBALOGAN CITY — The City of Catbalogan, through City Mayor Dexter Uy, welcomed a significant boost to its technological capabilities with the acceptance of a Php500,000.00 funding grant from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in a ceremony presided over by OIC-Regional Director Ms. Marilyn O. The turnover ceremony, held recently at the City Hall, was attended by key figures from DOST’s Regional and Provincial Offices, including Assistant Regional Director Dr. Ramil Uy and Provincial S&T Director Dr. Evelyn Bacarra-Tablante.

The grant marks the initial funding for the implementation of the Smart City Project, a visionary initiative led by the Catbalogan City Information, Communication, and Technology Office (CITCO).

This project is a direct response to Mayor Uy’s proposal, presented on June 6, 2023, at the Sangguniang Panlungsod Session Hall, which showcased the city’s noteworthy ICT innovations.

During the turnover ceremony, CITCO Head Engr. Exequiel Cabrigas III highlighted the potential establishment of an ICT Laboratory in the future, demonstrating the city’s forward-thinking approach to integrating technology into its infrastructure.

Regional Director Radam stressed the importance of E-Governance, emphasizing its role in meeting the needs and expectations of the city’s residents.

The collaboration between DOST and Catbalogan City signifies the beginning of an innovative journey, with the potential for long-term technological advancements and the establishment of crucial infrastructure for the benefit of the community.

This partnership is a testament to the city’s commitment to harnessing technology for the betterment of its constituents.
