TACLOBAN CITY – April 26 marked a significant day for 2,044 farmers from the municipality of San Miguel, Leyte, as they received a crucial lifeline in the form of cash aid totaling over P10 million. Spearheaded by a groundbreaking initiative, the distribution aims to bolster struggling agricultural communities, reflecting a commitment to support farmers during challenging times.

Led by officials from the offices of Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, Tingog Partylist Representatives Yedda K. Romualdez and Jude Acidre, along with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the distribution unfolded seamlessly. Each farmer-beneficiary in San Miguel received financial aid amounting to P5,000 under the Farmers’ Assistance for Recovery and Modernization (FARM) Program.

“This program is a testament to the directive of our esteemed President, Bongbong Marcos Jr., to extend government support to sectors in need, particularly those facing financial hardships,” stated Romualdez, a stalwart figure in the House of Representatives.

“In the face of challenges, especially amidst the El Niño season affecting all crops, your government is cognizant of your plight. May this assistance alleviate your burdens and pave the way for a brighter future,” he added.

The distribution ceremony unfolded at the San Miguel Municipal Gymnasium, graced by the presence of Mayor Norman Sabdao and SB Leticia Asis Espos, underscoring the collaborative effort to uplift agricultural communities.

Initiated by Speaker Romualdez, the FARM Program aims not only to alleviate financial strains on farmers but also to mitigate challenges faced by the National Food Authority (NFA) in meeting its buffer stock targets. In a bid to stabilize rice prices, farmers are encouraged to sell at least 100 kilos of their harvest to the NFA.

“The essence of this program lies in recognizing and honoring your invaluable contribution to Filipino households’ food security. For President Marcos Jr., every Filipino matters, and you are integral to that vision,” Speaker Romualdez affirmed.

The financial assistance, totaling P10.22 million, was sourced from the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) fund of the DSWD, reflecting a concerted effort to address immediate needs and foster resilience within agricultural communities.

As the nation navigates through uncertain times, initiatives like the FARM Program serve as beacons of hope, embodying a commitment to uphold the welfare of farmers and ensure food security for all Filipinos. (PR)
