Various people’s organizations staged a protest march along Commonwealth Avenue to the University of the Philippines (UP) in Quezon City on October 26, 2024, in advance of the International Peoples’ Tribunal. The event seeks to hold the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank accountable for their alleged roles in perpetuating inequality, poverty, and deprivation across the Global South.

Timed to align with the IMF and World Bank’s 80th anniversary and their annual meetings in Washington, D.C., the tribunal is set to take place at the UP Film Center, where an international panel of judges—comprising economists, lawyers, and academicians—will preside.

Organizers highlight this as the first tribunal of its kind in the Philippines, with additional sessions planned in Nepal, India, Africa, and Latin America.

The Asian Peoples’ Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD) is spearheading the tribunal, in collaboration with over 30 social justice and human rights organizations from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The tribunal’s final verdict is anticipated in April 2025.
