Phase 1 of Samar Island Medical Center Project Expected to be Completed This Year

Main Building to be Expanded to 8 Floors from Original 4 Floors

Phase 1 of Samar Island Medical Center Project Expected to be Completed This Year

CALBAYOG CITY — It is expected that the construction of the Out-patient Building and Mother and Child Building, components of Phase 1 of the Samar Island Medical Center project in Barangay Gadgaran, Calbayog, will be completed this year.

This was announced by representatives from the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Public Works and Highways, and the SIMC contractor during their meeting with City Mayor Raymund C. Uy on Friday, March 15, 2024.

The SIMC group also presented plans to expand the main building to eight floors from the original four, with an additional helipad. The DOH also requested an additional hectare of land for constructing other buildings, including facilities for cancer patients.

The relocation of informal settlers was also discussed during the meeting.

Contractors are working to expedite the installation of electricity and water connections at the project site.

Under Republic Act 11703 signed into law on April 16, 2022, the SIMC is a 300-bed-capacity tertiary hospital expected to provide high-level medical services from specialists in various fields.

Congressman Stephen James Tan and City Mayor Raymund C. Uy expressed their commitment to fund and expedite the implementation of this project.
