CATARMAN, Northern Samar—Authorities arrested a mother on Saturday, June 1, for attempting to sell her own child online. During the operation, two minors were successfully rescued.

According to reports, the 23-year-old suspect from San Roque town was arranging transactions through Facebook, offering to sell her two-month-old baby for cash.

The Women and Children Protection Center (WCPC) of the Philippine National Police in Camp Crame conducted an undercover operation, posing as potential buyers.

During negotiations, the suspect agreed to sell her baby for P60,000.00.

The WCPC, in coordination with the Women and Children Protection Desk of Police Regional Office 8, Catarman Municipal Police Station, DOJ RATFF 8, and the Catarman Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, launched an operation at the agreed meeting place in Brgy. Narra, Catarman, Northern Samar.

After completing the transaction, the suspect was arrested, and the two minors were rescued.

The suspect was immediately taken to Catarman Municipal Police Station for processing, while the victims were turned over to the Catarman Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.

A case for violation of Sections 4 (g), 6 (a)(d)(o) of R.A 9208 as amended by R.A 11862, also known as the “Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2022,” in relation to R.A 7610, was filed against the suspect.

“We will stand steadfast in our fight to fully protect young children by going against unscrupulous individuals who exploit children,” emphasized Police Colonel Sonnie B. Omengan, Provincial Director.

“I encourage the public to assist us in preventing crime and maintaining peace and order by promptly reporting any criminal activity to the nearest police station. Rest assured that your identity will be kept private and anonymous,” he added. (Photo and additional reporting from Pulis Nortehanon)
